I feel like I'm growing, in the literal and metaphorical. Why don't you watch.

closet-racists like to claim that they’d be totally fine and dandy with traditionally white characters being portrayed by actors of color whilst they’re casually dismissing the prevalence of white-washing in hollywood. hate to break it to you, but that is NOT the typical response that actors of color receive, and if you can’t acknowledge that, then you’re only adding to the problem.
remember that time hunger games fans flipped their shit because rue, who IS actually black in the books, was rightfully cast as black in the film? apparently their rose-colored white-is-default glasses made their eyes gloss over that tidbit of info. (let’s not even get wholeheartedly into the fact that katniss was described as having olive skin and jet black hair but her casting call specifically asked for only white actresses…because non-whites could never be expected to have dark hair and tan skin amirite?!)
remember that time people actually boycotted thor because idris elba was in it? http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/12/16/racists-thor-idris-ebla-racism/
remember that time donald glover got hoards of letters calling him the n-word because there were rumors about him possibly being the new spiderman?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgko-xReFSs
or that time the film adaptation of avatar: the last airbender (a show with OBVIOUS asian inspiration) was almost an entirely caucasian cast except for the “bad guy”, who, in the cartoon is actually light-skinned?                                      http://io9.com/5111680/avatar-casting-makes-fans-see-white
or remember that time all those fans said it was wrong to have angel coulby play the role of gwen in merlin because it wasn’t era-appropriate. because, ya know, being era-appropriate in a made-up story about magic is srs bsns.
so that’s why i don’t give a shit if you think i’m “overreacting” about jj abrams having a white actor play khan noonien singh. i’m not that surprised by it, since actors of color are routinely dismissed, but i still reserve the right to be pissed.

Remember that time when executives said that they wouldn’t fund a movie because it didn’t have enough white people in it?

Visual Diary 4/3/2013
Graduation photography is another fun way for me to get more immersed in the business aspects of photography while continuing to better my craft.  It gives me more opportunities to improve my interactions with clients and try new techniques to see what works and what doesn’t.  This photo is one where I was able to find a great image in a regular point of view and beautiful natural lighting.  I really enjoy when the sun hits the subject in just the right way, making it so much easier to meter the subject and pick up great detail.  Of course the image is processed, cropped and sharpened, just to make for a cleaner image.

USC’s Carolina Productions and B.G.L.S.A presents “The Birdcage”.

This was an interesting event to cover. It was the first time I had ever documented or been to a drag show, and it was a new challenge to try and thoroughly cover. The performers in the show were very energetic, and the crowd was really into the show as well. As far as my photography was concerned, it was a new chance for me to work with different light settings and angles, as well as a longer and more powerful lens. While I was continuously laughing and being surprised that night, I believe that I was able to capture some good photos that night.

Visual Diary, 3/20/2013

Sports photography is fun! Hard, but fun. For this project I had to use a Canon camera with a 70-200mm lens. The camera itself took some getting use to because I’ve never worked with a Canon before, and the lens was the longest I’ve ever used as well. Plus it was cold that afternoon as well so my fingers were being put through the wire. But, once I got the controls down and the timing of the players interactions, it was great. I liked knowing how to anticipate when and where the players would be, and catching them in action serving and returning the ball. I definitely want to try this again, only when it’s warmer and with a new sport though.

Michelle Obama is set to grace the April 2013 issue of Vogue. That also happens to be the month of the annual ‘Shape’ issue for the mag.

The First Lady looks perfectly poised in a beautiful blue dress from her own closet!
